If you have POPin Creator privileges, this means you can launch and manage what we call a 'POPin session.' You are not limited to the number of sessions you can run ... nor are you limited to the number of people you can invite to participate.

While this article covers the basics, we strongly encourage you read through How to galvanize POPin at your organization, as well as our other For POPin Creators articles. Our goal is to provide you with strategic coaching in addition to the functional tidbits you need to get the most out of this mighty tool!

Launching a POPin

Figure out what you don't know ... but need to know. For example: Maybe you don't know what's causing the most confusion for your team and therefore blocking the results you desire. Maybe you don't know how to effectively scorecard success for the project you're managing. Maybe you don't know what's blocking usage of the technology product you sell or manage internally. Once you have this sorted out...

Step 1: Log in to popinnow.com from any web-browser with internet connectivity.

Step 2: Select the type of session you'd like to run: Crowdsource, Survey, or Prioritize.

  • Crowdsource: This interactive Crowdsource feature allows you to listen at scale by asking open-ended questions while giving the people 'closest to the action' a safe, efficient way to surface real problems and blockers. Better yet, you can then use this feature to engage that same community of people to identify solutions they’ll buy into. There are countless ways to use the Crowdsource feature to engage team members or customers on important topics!

  • Survey (POPin Style): In addition to having access to traditional survey-style questions (multiple choice, yes/no, stack ranking, 1-5 scale), POPin layers in the ability to capture interactive comments. This allows participants to provide clarifying comments if the 'preloaded' answers are missing the information you actually need. This is an effective way to create baseline/on-going measurements while offering a way to capture input not accounted for!

  • Prioritize: When teams have clarity on what’s most important now, work gets done—and this leads to improved engagement and satisfaction. It’s a beautiful thing! Conventional methods for getting people on the same page when evaluating different options can be hard and time consuming. POPin’s Prioritize feature provides an efficient way for leaders and change makers to facilitate group evaluation on strategic initiatives, project prioritization, vendor selection, product backlogs and more. This feature offers both templated and customized evaluation criteria and layers in POPin’s signature ability to capture interactive comments. A great replacement for any laborious score-carding effort taking place!

Step 3: Follow the system guided steps to configure your POPin session.

Here are three helpful hints:

  • Take the time to thoughtfully craft your question(s). This is critical to getting input that matters!!! We've found that keeping your question singular, constructive, and focused is best. (Examples: "If you could suggest ONE thing that would improve X, what would it be?" Or, "Based on the shared plan, what's ONE thing we could tweak/add to make the rollout of Y bulletproof?") You can check out our How do I craft the perfect question? article to learn more.

  • Set an appropriate duration. We've found 72 hours to be the ideal length for a POPin. Just long enough for users to participate, but not so long that people lose interest.

  • Make participation Anonymous. We strongly recommend configuring your POPin to collect Anonymous (versus Named) responses. Scary? Maybe. But it's also the best way to ensure you'll get the most candid and actionable feedback. Check out this article learn more about how Participation Settings work.

Step 4: Click 'Save & Preview' to generate the web link. You'll be able to share this with your team in the next step.

Step 5: Share your POPin by copying the share link and distributing it through your most trusted and used platforms (email, MS Teams, Slack, carrier pigeon, etc.).

Editing Session Settings

You can update or edit any session setting—as long as your question does not have any participation at that point. However, after a single user takes one action in your POPin: You cannot change the question type or anonymity setting.

Driving Participation

As the POPin Creator, you should actively engage in your session! One of the best ways to show your users you're listening is to jump into the conversation. Learn more

For long-term success, it is critical to close the loop with your team after your POPin ends. Demonstrating that you’re listening and incorporating their feedback into action plans builds trust and drives participation in future POPins. Learn more
